Palestinians in Gaza took to the streets to celebrate following reports of a ceasefire and hostage release agreement between the Israeli regime and the Hamas resistance.
In Seoul, the People’s Union of Palestine Solidarity (PSP) held a large rally titled “Two Years since the Gaza Massacre – National Day of Action” at Songhyeon Green Park on October 12 to express its unwavering support for Gaza and its people.
PSP held speeches and performances near Songhyeon Square in the early afternoon, featuring messages from Palestinian residents of South Korea and local human rights organizations.
The group also issued a statement mentioning the ceasefire.
“The global solidarity movement that isolated Israel and the United States forced this ceasefire,” the statement said.
“Despite the obstacles, over the past two years, protests and strikes have continued around the world, from Italy to Latin America, deepening the isolation of the Israeli regime and undermining the legitimacy of its Western allies.”
However, the PSP criticized the ceasefire as superficial, saying it would leave large parts of Gaza under occupation.
“This is only the first step,” the group said.
“Israeli forces still occupy more than half of the Gaza Strip, aid remains limited and the blockade continues.”
The statement also warned that the proposed ceasefire pushed by US President Donald Trump contains unacceptable terms, including the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance forces and the imposition of foreign control over Gaza after the war.
“Our solidarity will not stop until Palestine is completely liberated, until the Israeli regime fully withdraws from Gaza, lifts the blockade and ends its campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing,” the PSP declared.
The demonstrators then marched from Gwanghwamun, through Insadong and Jonggak, to the Cheonggyecheon Stream, where the Israeli Embassy in Seoul is located.
