Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut made his speech in a speech at the Greek-sponsored Greek Forum of Ancient Civilizations on Monday night.
The Greek-sponsored Forum of Ancient Civilizations (ACF) was convened in New York on local time on Monday to feature the participation of a variety of international officials, including Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi.
Attending the annual UN General Assembly, Araguchi emphasized the importance of ancient heritage and culture in restoring world peace and security.
In his speech, Aragut expressed his gratitude to Greece for effectively organizing the forum, saying that participants would gather as guardians of the oldest human civilization.
He highlighted the increasing importance of their mission amid global uncertainty and advocated for the protection of cultural heritage against ongoing threats, particularly in the West Asia region.
The Foreign Minister called for greater cooperation and information sharing to protect these valuable pillars of human memory. He said technological advances such as satellite imaging and artificial intelligence have revolutionized archaeology, enabling unprecedented discovery and conservation efforts.
He also welcomed the recent repatriation to countries like Egypt and Greece, highlighting the need for a global movement to return cultural artifacts. Araghchi urged the strengthening of international legal frameworks to ensure a revival of cultural characteristics that were plundered between colonialism and conflict.
Furthermore, he condemned the ongoing war in Gaza, describing it as a direct attack on cultural genocide and historical identity. He called for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, and the end of the profession, arguing that culture and the preservation of human life were intertwined.
