Tehran – A new direct flight route between Urmia and Istanbul, the capital of Iran’s western Azarbaijan province, is expected to be released within a few days.
Mohammadari Naerkaramalek, director of West Azarbaijan Airport, announced on Tuesday that the Urmia Istanbul route will be operated by Caspia Airlines and is scheduled for May 4th (Ordibehesht 14 of the Iranian calendar).
Under the announced schedule, flights will run twice a week on Sunday and Wednesday. Inbound flights arrive at Shahidbekari International Airport in Urmia at 4:30pm local time and depart for Istanbul at 6pm on the same day.
In addition to the new international routes, Naer Karamalaki also confirmed an increase in domestic flights between Urmia and Tehran. Starting May 4th, flights between Urmia and Tehran’s Mehrabad airport will also run every Sunday and Wednesday.
Tehran-bound flights arrive at Urmia at 5pm and depart at 5:45pm.
Located in the northwest of the country, Western Azarbaijan is adjacent to Turkey, Iraq (Governor Erbil and Suleimaiya) and the Naktiban Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the Iranian provinces of East Azarbaijan, Zanjan, Zanjan and Kordanten. It is separated from Armenia by the short Turkish border with the Republic of Azerbaijan. The state covers an area of 39,487 km2, or 43,660 km2, including Lake Urmia.
