Sheikh Hikumat al-Hijiri, spiritual leader of Syria’s Druze community, issued a strong statement on Sunday, quickly ending the ongoing attack on Sweida. Sheikh’s message is widely seen as an important moral attitude amid the escalating crisis, highlighting unity and resistance to sectarian instigation, Al Mayaden reported.
Calling the attack on Sweeda a “brutal attack,” Sheikh al-Hijiri appealed for peace and de-escalation, and rejected attempts to burn discord and violence among Syrians. He emphasized that the Sweida people do not maintain hostility based on religion or ethnicity, and that efforts to ignite such divisions are “nothing other than shame and dishonor.”
In his statement, Sheikh al-Hijiri welcomed the provision of humanitarian assistance to Sweida through international organizations and expressed deep gratitude for his genuine efforts to save lives and alleviate civilian suffering in worsening conditions.
