Reza Najafi is working on the IAEA governor’s meeting on Wednesday, with the UK, Germany and France (E3) not following the JCPOA’s commitment to lift anti-Iran sanctions and unable to invoke dispute resolution mechanisms for the transaction.
Najafi cited E3’s refusal to respect its obligation to remove sanctions that should be removed on the date of the JCPOA transition that fell on October 18, 2023, the report reported.
Furthermore, European parties have imposed even more restrictions on Iran in a total violation of JCPOA and UNSC resolution 2231, which Najafi said is in favor of the deal.
Under the conflict resolution mechanism, all anti-Iran UN sanctions suspended under the agreement will be restored if one of the five permanent members of the Security Council believes Tehran is violating the JCPOA.
The European political parties in the trade have recently suggested that they can activate mechanisms in response to those who have not adhered to Iran’s JCPOA commitments.
The 2015 nuclear deal provided for the suspension of anti-Iran sanctions in exchange for restrictions on trust building restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear activity, derailed by a unilateral US withdrawal in 2018.
Iran has waited more than a year for three European parties to make up for the US withdrawal in line with the agreement, but to no avail.
The country later began to walk back to some of its nuclear commitments in cooperation.
Tehran says it is not violating the agreement and that its reduction in commitments is a legal response to its withdrawal from the US.
“Iran’s reaction to being decisive”
The Iranian envoy warned that any measures by the E3 or the US against UNSC Resolution 2231 or the council against new sanctions on Iran will have serious consequences.
“Under such a scenario, as previously mentioned to other JCPOA parties, Iran’s options will be critical and the three states, the US and Europe, will be responsible for all,” he said.
Najafi also mentioned indirect consultations with the US over Iran’s nuclear program, indicating that the country has shown seriousness to reach a “fair, lasting and effective” agreement.
“I would like to emphasize that Iran’s Islamic Republic believes that diplomatic solutions are within reach if careless rights, including domestic enrichment, are respected and recognized,” he said.
Iran and the US are currently in indirect discussions about replacing the 2015 deal.
The sixth round of negotiations will take place on Sunday.
