TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned the actions of three European countries, the UK, France and Germany, as well as the US, to use the Governor’s Committee as a tool that “slayers” the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.
The IAEA Board voted on a resolution to condemn Iran on Thursday. The resolution, drafted by the UK, France and Germany and supported by the US, was passed with 19 votes, in favor, 3, 11 votes, and 11 votes. Russia, China and Burkina Faso voted against it. Among the countries that abstained were South Africa, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia and Brazil.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaie firmly rejects any claims included in the resolution based on joint proposals from France, the UK, Germany and the US, relying on a “political” report released by IAEA Director Rafael Grossi.
“This action is an unfair, unfounded and oppressive move aimed at pressure Iran to abandon the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian people for the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” Bagai said.
The spokesman warned the resolution initiator that he was responsible for the consequences of this unfair and destructive action. He emphasized that appropriate measures will be taken in response to this action to ensure and protect the interests and rights of Iranian people to benefit from the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
“Intention to draft a solution”
Baghaei has dismissed allegations that Iran failed to comply with its obligations under the comprehensive safeguard agreement as “manufactured as completely unfounded.”
He emphasized that “a very claim of non-compliance reveals the “fraud and malicious” of the drafting of the resolution.”
A nuclear spokesman added: “Even a highly politicized report by the Agency Director has not yet made such allegations.”
