The global backlash against the Israeli regime for the humanitarian sacrifice of the war in Gaza has spread across the fields of sport and culture. Israeli critics say it should be on the sidelines from international events.
So far, Israel has not been closed by global sports organizations such as the International Olympic Committee or World Football Body FIFA. In addition to the small international Muay Thai federation, there was little will in international sports to prevent Israeli athletes from competing.
However, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said this week it was time to boycott Israel from international sporting events, along with Palestinian protesters who disrupt Spain’s Vuelta cycling races, raising temperatures, and until Gaza’s “wild barrage” ends. A day later, Spanish public broadcasters joined three other European countries threatening to withdraw and not carry next year’s Eurovision Song Contest if Israel is allowed to compete, the Associated Press reported.
Earlier this month, some Hollywood filmmakers, actors and other industry figures signed a pledge to boycott Israeli film institutions, including festivals, broadcasters and production companies.
FIFA has declined to request comment on the delayed work of two panels considering Israeli policy and the formal complaints by the Palestinian Football Federation, which has sought to ban Israel from competition over the treatment of Palestinians.
