Tehran – Experts from the Cultural Heritage Department of Mazandaran are enthusiastic about restoring and preserving historic and cultural crafts in dedicated labs and workshops located in the state’s capital, Sari.
The Repair Laboratory is still developed and equipped, but a collection of 130 restored artifacts has been announced for publication during the recent Nowruz Holidays, the IRNA reported.
According to cultural heritage expert Abolfazl Nikoubayan, the Museum of Cultural Heritage is located in the Corbadi House, a historical structure of the Qajar period. The museum was officially established in 2008 and was registered as a national heritage site in 1998 under 2148.
Nikobayan emphasized the need to preserve and recover artifacts obtained from archaeological excavations, discoveries and confiscations.
Restorated artifacts include bronze daggers and arrows from ancient excavations, decorative bronze bracelets and rings, and ritual totems. Prior to restoration, each item was thoroughly documented, including photography from all angles, damage assessments, and analysis based on international repair standards. Initial inspections revealed that many objects were covered with environmental deposits, and some exhibited corrosion in the form of pale green oxidation, experts explained.
Further analysis identified active corrosion characterized by pale green and greyish greenish discoloration caused by the presence of chlorine. Acidity levels were assessed using pH meter paper, and acidity reactions were confirmed at a pH value of about 6 on most objects.
The repair process was carried out in several stages. Initially, the artifact stock numbers were removed using a solution of distilled water and acetone. Mechanical cleaning was followed, and soil sediments and corrosive residues were removed using surgical scalpels and dental tools. Several samples were collected for further analysis.
Following the restoration, each artifact was photographed again to compare pre-recovery and post-recovery conditions. A detailed report has been edited, the objects have been properly packaged and returned to storage for storage.
The announcement of these artifacts at Nowruz provided visitors and history enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to witness the meticulous efforts made to preserve Iran’s cultural heritage, the report says.
