Speaking at a technical conference held at Amir Kabir University of Technology on Iran’s draft maritime development blueprint, Iran’s naval commander called for greater focus on the country’s access to the world’s oceans.
“The enemy’s main strategy today is to restrict the corridor and monopolize its use by excluding Iran,” he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Navy chief emphasized the scientific and technological importance of the oceans, noting that maritime development requires relevant science, tools and technology, and the country’s comprehensive maritime development document also provides comprehensive capabilities in this regard.
He pointed out that there is a need to seriously consider the strategic and geopolitical aspects of the sea and the role of the corridor.
The commander noted that while national planning documents consistently emphasize the north-south corridor, insufficient attention is paid to east-west maritime routes.
The Secretary of the Navy also called for greater emphasis on the development of maritime logistics hubs in the National Maritime Development Document.
