At a press conference held at the Chinese Embassy in Tehran on Sunday, the ambassador highlighted the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held on September 1, describing it as the largest and most productive in the organization’s history.
He noted that the summit highlighted high-quality development, multilateral cooperation and long-term strategic plans, including signing the Tianjin Declaration and approval of the 10-year SCO Strategic Development Plan.
The ambassador emphasized that SCO continues to support the establishment principles of respect, equality, mutual development and practical multilateral governance.
Speaking about China-Iran relations, the envoy noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian held an important bilateral meeting on September 2.
During the discussion, the two sides agreed to further strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation and deepen collaboration within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting that China is eager to reach the highest level and expand practical cooperation with Iran.
The ambassador emphasized China’s support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, reaffirming Tehran’s right to develop nuclear energy for civilian purposes, and stressing that all conflicts should be resolved through political and diplomatic channels.
He also repeatedly opposed China’s unilateral sanctions and military intervention, warning that such actions would raise regional tensions and undermine stability.
Kong also praised Iran’s role in SCO since joining the organization, noting that Tehran has made a significant contribution to regional collaboration and multilateral initiatives.
He emphasized that China and Iran share their commitment to promoting true multilateralism, strengthening global governance and defending international justice, in response to unilateral moves, particularly by powerful countries.
In the Belt and Road Initiative, Kong pointed to the ongoing joint projects, highlighting its focus on high-quality construction, green standards and expanding connections in the country along the route. He expressed China’s desire to continue practical cooperation with Iran to achieve common development goals and mutual benefits.
The ambassador also emphasized the need to coordinate China and Iran’s position on major global issues, including supporting multilateralism, unilateral opposition, strengthening international law, and fostering dialogues to prevent conflict.
He emphasized that continuing cooperation between the two countries will play an important role in promoting peace, security and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
