Costa announced the meeting following discussions on Ukraine at the G20 summit. “The U.S. draft of the 28-Point Plan contains elements critical to a just and lasting peace, and we stand ready to do our part to ensure the future sustainability of the world,” Costa wrote in X magazine.
The announcement follows a joint statement by leaders of European states and institutions, along with the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Norway, indicating that the U.S. draft peace plan needs further development. The statement expressed concern over “proposed restrictions on Ukraine’s military that would leave Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks,” according to a report by NBC News.
According to NBC News, the 28-point framework suggests Russia would be granted more territory than it holds, restrictions would be placed on Ukraine’s military, and it could prevent Kiev from joining NATO. According to the paper, President Donald Trump has set a Thanksgiving deadline for Ukraine to agree to a framework.
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, announced on November 22 that Kiev would hold talks with the United States on stopping the war in Switzerland.
