According to Al Jazeera, the leaders of three European countries, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, announced their intention to meet with Tehran and the United States to reach an agreement that would ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.
The three European leaders once again defended their decision to trigger the snapback mechanism against Iran, reiterating their earlier assertions. He did not mention Iran’s non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), arguing that Iran’s nuclear program poses a grave threat to world peace and security.
It also called on all UN member states to comply with the mechanism for reinstating sanctions against Iran.
These statements were made despite the fact that Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that Iran never sought nuclear weapons and that such weapons have no place in the country’s defense principles.
