The incident occurred at the edge of a village in southern Jibkin in Tire Province, the Army said. It added that efforts had been made to determine the cause of the explosion, but no further details were given. The depot is believed to have been used by extremist group Hezbollah, the Associated Press reported.
The explosion took place south of the Ritani River in the area where Hezbollah retracted its fighter jets under conditions of a ceasefire that ended a 14-month conflict with Israel in November. Over the past few months, Lebanese forces and UN peacekeepers have taken over the Hezbollah posts in the region.
On Thursday, the Lebanese cabinet voted in favor of a US support plan that disarms Hezbollah and implements a ceasefire with Israel. The Lebanese government urged the National Army to prepare a plan for only national bodies in the small country by the year.
Hezbollah refused to hand over his arms, emphasizing that it was a weapon of resistance that protected the Lebanese. The resistance also calls for an end to the Israeli regime’s attack on Lebanese soil.
