Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has been effective from May 15, 2025 and has been appointed as Deputy Director-General of Asia and the Pacific and Representative of the FAO Region.
Prior to joining FAO, Dohon, an Indonesian citizen, served as Minister of the Environment and Senior Advisor to the Environmental Management Agency of the Republic of Indonesia since December 2024.
Dohong began his career as a lecturer staff member at Palangka Raya University in Indonesia in 1994, specializing in peatland recovery, environmental management and sustainable development in a master’s course in natural resources and environment.
He also served as Kalimantan Site Coordinator for the International Indonesia Programme of Wetlands, Palankaraya, Central Kalimantan, which is a role from 2003 to 2011. He then worked as an expert in the Central Kalimantan Red + Liaison Office from 2011 to 2013.
Dohon holds a PhD in Philosophy in Environmental Management from the University of Queensland, Australia, a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the Faculty of Geography at the University of Nottingham, UK, and a Bachelor of Science in Economic Development from the University of Palancakaya, Indonesia.
