Tehran – Iranian cinema museums in Tehran will hold the program “3 Days of Parajanov” and review the three most important films by acclaimed Soviet directors.
The program is scheduled to take place from September 7th to 9th. The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Arther Martyrtirussian, will attend the opening ceremony, Honaron Rhine reported.
Sergei Parajanov (1924-1990) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. His films are known for their poetic, non-linear and symbolic nature. Filmmakers, film critics and film historians are widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time, and he is described as the “magician”, “master”, and “magician of the world of film.”
September 7th, the first day of the programme, “The Color of Pomegranate,” will be screened, one of the filmmakers’ most important and influential works. After the screening, there will be a review session with researcher and film critic Robert Safarian.
The 1969 Soviet Armenian avant-garde film, The Color of Pomegranate, is a poetic treatment of the life of the 18th century Armenian poet and the troubadour Sayat Nova. The film is considered a landmark in film history and has received widespread acclaim among filmmakers and critics. It is often considered one of the best films ever made.
On the second day of the program on September 8th, “The Lovelorn Minstrel” will appear. The film is also considered one of Parakhanov’s signature works. After the film’s screening, renowned film critic Ramtin Shabaji analyzes and reviews the film in a specialized session.
“The Lovelorn Minstrel” is a 1988 Soviet art film directed by Dodo Abashidze and Parajanov, based on a short story of the same name by Mikhail Lermontov. Parakhanov’s final completed film, dedicated to his best friend Andrei Tarkovsky, who passed away two years ago. The film also features a detailed portrayal of Azerbaijani culture.
The last day of the programme, “The Legend of Suram Fortress” will be screened on September 9th, with the final session of the series taking place with the presence of filmmaker Anahid Abad.
“The Legend of the Suram Fortress” is a 1985 Soviet art film directed by Parakhanov and Georgian actor Dodo Abassyz. Paradjanov’s first film The film 15 years after censorship in the Soviet Union is a film stylized in conjunction with his previous “Color of Pomegranate”. The film consists of a series of tableaus. Again, minimal interaction is used. The film exists almost in one power surreal.
Parakhanov’s film will be screened at Feldows Hall in the cinema for the last three days from 6pm to 8pm.
The Iranian Film Museum is located in Tehran’s upscale Bagh Eveldouz district on Varias Street near Tajlish Square.
