TEHRAN – Famous film producer Amir Samavati passed away on Sunday at Tehran Hospital after heart surgery. He was 65 years old.
Samavati was the producer of “Deep Breathing,” directed by Parvis Shabaji, a groundbreaking Iranian film. The film was awarded Crystal Simoug for its best script at the 2003 FAJR International Film Festival and won the Fiplesi Award at the 2003 Pousan International Film Festival. Additionally, it was Iran’s official submission to the best foreign language film category at the 2004 Academy Awards.
He also took part in the 23rd Fajr Film Festival with “Café Transit,” directed by Kambuzia Partovi, winning the best film Accolade.
His latest film, “Darband,” directed by Parviz Shahbazi, was screened at the 31st Fajr Film Festival, where he won three Crystal Simoog Awards.
One of his most recent international appearances was directed by director Nasser Zamiri, who was recognized with a special ju-jury diploma, along with the film “With Others” at the 32nd FAJR International Film Festival.
Last year he portrayed the film producer for Danesh Eghbashavi’s “Zapata.” Throughout his career from 1999 to 2016, Samabati produced many acclaimed films and television series.
He also directed the film “Red Garden” and appeared as an actor in various productions, including “8:30pm”, “Dal Band”, “Zarinotheros” and “Mortar Scars”.
Born in Hadan in 1959, Samabati received a degree in Director and Editorial. He was CEO of Derakhshan Aftab Alamtab, an innovative knowledge-based film production and distribution company, and a member of Alborz Science and Technology Park.
