The landslide struck Sharmani village in the Kluni district, about 210 km northeast of the capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimra.
“There is no time left for immediate evacuation due to a tragedy that occurred while residents were sleeping,” local government officials said.
The deceased include two women and two small children.
“Three people who were rescued in injuries were hospitalized,” officials said.
The ongoing monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has caused extensive landslides, flash floods and cloudbursts, claiming hundreds of lives and wreaking havoc.
According to a report released by the Himachal Pradesh Emergency Operations Centre on Tuesday, in addition to 437 injuries in monsoon rains between June 20 and September 9, at least 378 people have been killed and 40 have been missing.
