Heavy smoke filled the area, especially the cargo section where imported goods are mainly stored.
According to the fire department’s media cell, as many as 36 firefighters were involved in fighting the blaze, with five more expected to join.
According to Anadolu Agency, Bangladesh’s army, air force, navy and two platoons of border guards also participated.
Local television reported that several people, including firefighters, were injured while taking part in the operation.
Details such as the cause of the fire and the number of people injured have not yet been released.
Local channel 24 TV, citing security personnel, reported that the cargo section contained a large amount of clothing among other items.
The explosion of the chemicals in the cans could also be heard, and the fire intensified.
Saturday’s incident comes days after two major fires broke out this week at two factories in Dhaka and the port city of Chattogram. At least 16 people were killed, including a garment factory in Dhaka’s Mirpur district, and one person died in an export processing zone in Chattogram, the report added.
