At least 14 people have been killed or gone missing in Dien Bien province in northern Vietnam due to floods caused by heavy rain, state media reported on Friday.
The floods quickly rose the day after hours of heavy rain on Thursday night, flooding homes in low-lying areas and causing flash floods and landslides in the mountains of the province, reported Tien Feng newspaper.
The mountain village of Xa Dung suffered the heaviest casualties, one death and six people disappeared, the report says.
According to a statement from the state People’s Committee, traffic and transmission to several parts of the state are being blocked due to floods.
According to the statement, two children from Hang Poo Xi village have been buried in a landslide, and rescuers have not yet found their bodies.
Media reports said ongoing heavy rains in the state prevented searching for missing people.
