Araghchi made these comments on Thursday during a phone conversation with his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski.
He called for a fair and responsible European response to the ongoing abuse of the Israeli regime in the region.
Detailing the regime’s attacks on Iran includes terrorism and assassination of military figures, academics and civilians, as well as attacks on infrastructure, peaceful nuclear facilities and residential areas in various cities, Arakich said Israeli assault constitutes a clear act of attacks under Article 39 of the United Nations.
He emphasized that the international community has a responsibility to take a firm stance and that the UNSC should not only condemn aggression, but also hold perpetrators accountable.
Referring to Israel and the United States being attacked by Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, he called them a serious violation of the UNSC resolution in connection with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). He argued that such actions undermine the rule of law, diplomacy and non-proliferation regimes, adding that the consequences of these actions fall straight down on the shoulders of both the attacker and his advocates.
Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, Arakich stressed Iran’s right to self-defense, saying that Iranian forces are determined to stand up to foreign invasions and remain prepared to respond decisively to further attacks by the Israeli regime or its supporters.
Criticizing certain European countries’ failure to support Israel and condemn Israel and the US attacks, Arakich urged them to act responsibly against the abuses of local regimes.
He also said that unconditional support for Israel in the United States and certain European countries encouraged the regime to continue its attacks on genocide in occupied Palestine and Lebanon and Syria.
The Polish Foreign Minister welcomed the ceasefire and expressed his hope that it would help alleviate tensions in the Middle East. He also thanked Iran for his efforts to strengthen consular cooperation between the two countries.
