TEHRAN – A former Iranian diplomat who wrote an commentary published in the Iranian newspaper on June 23rd strongly criticized IAEA Chihrafaer Grossi for his report to the IAEA Committee, saying it had paved the way for the adoption of a resolution against Iran and the ultimate illegal attacks by Israel.
“Unfortunately, Grossi has not paid attention to this serious responsibility and has effectively transformed the institution into a tool to justify hostile and illegal actions by the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic,” Korsh Ahmadi said.
Below is the text from his article entitled “Justified Aggression.”
It was expected that members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) influential countries would use their diplomatic capabilities to prevent the spread of tensions, but the IAEA Director has chosen a different path.
By preparing a report that obscured the political dimensions of technical and legal, Rafael Grossi effectively adopted the basis for adopting a resolution from the Governor’s Committee that served as an additional false justification for the US strike against Iran’s nuclear function.
A report prepared by the IAEA under Grossi’s responsibility for Iran’s nuclear activities was released as negotiations were underway between Grossi and Iranian officials on a controversial issue.
These negotiations have been pursued extensively in recent years, revolving primarily around secret nuclear sites claimed by the West. This was narrowed down from two locations, from the installation and monitoring of IAEA cameras, and the operational act of inspectors. In all these issues, Iran demonstrated a high level of cooperation and involvement to promote conflict resolution.
In this context, it was expected that influential countries would use their diplomatic capabilities to prevent the spread of tensions and avoid pushing the issue towards war and conflict, but Grossi chose a different path. His report encouraged the adoption of a resolution by the Governor’s Committee, where political aspects dominate technical and legal issues and falsely justified the Israeli regime and the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The resolution cannot be considered the sole cause of military attacks, but it played an important role in strengthening the political and legal atmosphere of Iran within the Governor’s Committee, further opening up the path to hostile action.
In this regard, the IAEA Director’s personal approach and trends are extremely important. In the previous period, directors such as Hans Brix, Mohamed Elbaradei and Yukiya Amano faced many challenges, but maintained a more balanced and professional approach to collaboration with Iran and the institution.
In contrast, Grossi exhibits a clear and deep tendency towards the West, particularly in his performance and responsibility as commander, distancing himself from the neutrality required for this position. These trends influenced his actions and reporting that effectively reduced the role of the institution from technical and legal institutions to tools to advance Western political objectives.
Grossi clearly overlooks the reality that his position and performance, along with the tone of his reporting, can play a critical role in issues as important as peace and war, and could pave the way for action against international law and military attacks.
Unfortunately, Grossi has not paid attention to this serious responsibility and has effectively transformed the institution into a tool to justify hostile and illegal actions by the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic. This reality currently casts a constantly growing shadow on relations between Iran and the institution, bleaking the prospects for future cooperation.
