Andriy Parubiy, who previously served as the secretary of the Ukraine National Security and Defense Council, was murdered on Saturday in the city of LVIV.
Prosecutors said the gunman fired several shots at Parviy and killed him “on the spot.” The attackers fled and the manhunt was launched, Al Jazeera reported.
Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky condemned the murder as a “terrifying murder” and expressed his sadness to Parby’s family and loved ones.
“All the necessary forces and means are engaged in investigating and exploring the murderer,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
Parubiy, 54, is a member of the Congress and served as Speaker of the Council from April 2016 to August 2019.
He was also one of the leaders of popular protests in Ukraine in 2013 and 2014, calling for close ties with the European Union.
