“Early today, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of the Army conducted a lethal kinetic attack on yet another drug-trafficking vessel,” Hegseth wrote.
On Monday, Hegseth said the United States attacked a suspected drug-trafficking ship in the Pacific Ocean, killing 14 people, the BBC reported.
The strikes, ordered by the president, mark an expansion of the White House’s campaign to stop maritime narcotics from entering the United States via both the Pacific and Caribbean.
Hegseth’s post included a video showing a ship on fire after being hit by U.S. military ammunition.
“The Western Hemisphere is no longer a safe haven for narco-terrorists bringing drugs into our country to poison Americans,” he wrote. “The Department of the Army will continue to hunt down and eliminate them wherever they operate.”
He added that the attack took place in international waters and caused no harm to U.S. military personnel, the report noted.
