Essex police were warned at the airport on Sunday before 4pm that they were calling “reporting one 12-meter plane crash” a “serious incident.”
Images posted on social media show that a plume of fire and black smoke and black smoke appeared from the crash site, with witnesses explaining that they saw “fireballs.”
The PA understands that although Essex police have not yet confirmed casualties, four people have been killed in the crash.
The press conference is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Zeusch Aviation, based at LelyStad Airport in the Netherlands, confirmed that the SUZ1 flight was “engaged in an accident” at London South End Airport, adding that it is supporting the authorities in the investigation.
The plane was scheduled to fly from Athens, the Greek capital, to Pula, Croatia on Sunday, before heading to Southend and returning to Releasetad on Sunday evening.
The airport said all flights with the Southend will be cancelled and will remain closed until further notice.
There were 20 EasyJet flights and two Eastern Airlines scheduled to enter and exit the airport on Monday.
Five crew members and two off-road vehicles from the Essex Fire Andrescue Service joined in along with four ambulances, quick response vehicles, four dangerous area response team vehicles, three senior paramedics vehicles and an air ambulance.
