France’s resigning foreign minister Jean Noel Barott said UN sanctions on Iran remained open on Sunday, Anadolu reported.
“The doors of diplomacy remain open and we want to continue the dialogue that allows us to move forward,” he said. “It is in Iran’s interest to pursue dialogue.”
“So, while sanctions are being reapplied today, dialogue will continue so that all security assurances are provided by Iran, and our security interests could be truly guaranteed,” he reaffirmed.
Sanctions — restored on Sunday after a decade — have been caused by France, Germany and the UK and accused Tehran of violating its nuclear obligations. Tehran has argued that a snapback of sanctions is illegal as Europeans failed to comply with the 2015 nuclear deal along Russia and China after the illegal US withdrawal in 2018.
