Sheikh Naim Qassem is a Shia religious scholar and Lebanese politician who is considered one of the most famous leaders of the “Hezbollah” movement in Lebanon. He was elected the fourth secretary general of the movement on October 29, 2024, following the assassination of the martial master “Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah”, former Secretary General of Hezbollah.
But who was Sheikh Naim Qassem, who became the secretary general of Hezbollah, Lebanon, after the martial teaching of Seyad Hassan Nasrara?
Early childhood and education:
“Naim Ibn Mohammad Naim Qassem” was born in February 1953 in Kfar Fila, Nabatya province, southern Lebanon. He has four sons and two daughters.
His interest in Islam attracted him as a young man to study Islamic books. At the age of 18, he held weekly religious courses at mosques for teenagers and young people.
However, Sheikh was not interested in Islamic science alone and liked chemistry. Naim Qassem received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of Lebanon in French. In 1977 he received a Masters degree in Chemistry from the same university and then began teaching. Therefore, he taught at a public high school for six years.
Naim Qassem studied at seminary along with his academic studies.
Working with a group of youths, he founded the Lebanese Muslim Student Union in 1970 with the aim of spreading religious thinking to universities and schools.
Political activities of Hezbollah leaders:
After the foundations of the Amal Movement by Imammusa Sadr in 1974, Sheikh Naim Qassem joined a military division called the “Stolen Movement” with the aim of countering the Zionist Occupants who had taken parts of Lebanon.
After several sessions of the Islamic Commission in 1982, Hezbollah in Lebanon was founded, with Naim Qassem being one of the movement’s most outstanding co-founders.
He then became a member of Hezbollah’s council and continued his activities in three rounds. He then took over the responsibility for education and reconnaissance in Beirut. He then became an executive at Hezbollah.
Naim Qassem played an important role in expanding Hezbollah and ties with other Lebanon political parties. He has played a role in many of the negotiations that brought political agreements with the Lebanese government.
He was appointed acting director of the movement in 1991 and was in the post before the martial teaching of Seyed Hassan Nasrara.

Sheikh Naim Qassem’s long tenure as Deputy Secretary General of Hezbollah was characterized by numerous developments, including the war in July 1993, the war in 1996, the liberation of Lebanon in 2000, the 33-day war in 2006, and the conflict in 2017.

Sheikh Naim Qassem is the author and has written several books in areas such as civil law, women’s situation, teacher’s situation, student situation, male and female rights, and parental obligations to children.
He wrote an important book about Imam Khomeini entitled “Imam al Khomeini Bain al Izarat Wol Tajdod” and the book entitled “Al Wali al Mojadod” is about Imam Khomeini.
Among his other books, we can mention “Hezbollah: Past and Future” written in 2002 and translated into Persian, English, French, Turkish, Urdu and Indonesian.
Another famous book by this scholar is an explanation of the paper on the rights of Imam Zain ur Abedin.
Generally speaking, Sheikh Naim Qassem is considered a vital figure in the Lebanese political scene, continuing to influence the country’s Hezbollah and political trends. Many experts believe that Hezbollah in Lebanon will experience significant developments and take noticeable steps as Sheikh Naim Qassem as a new leader.
