Tehran – The grand “10 Kilometre Gadir Celebration” will be held in Tehran on June 14th, simultaneously with Eid al-Gadir, and will take the opportunity to host more celebrations in 500 cities in 500 Iranian countries.
Zare emphasized that Ghadir’s celebration is an exciting and replicable model. He said more than 2,400 temporary stations will be set up in Eid Al Gadir from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square in Tehran to Eid Al Gadir for public access from 4pm to 10pm.
The station will provide food and drinks to attendees. Some stations offer play areas for children. Flowers and cultural gifts are also distributed among people.
Zare also pointed out that the issue of Palestinians as the most important concern in the Islamic world will be highlighted during the event, saying that donation boxes have been set up along the entire celebration route to gather aid for the Palestinians.
“Almost every station in the 10-kilometer celebration is run by people but is organized by the coordination committee. Based on the survey, we expect more than 20 million participants,” he said.
Zare said when the event first launched, they didn’t expect it to spread to all states and over 500 cities. “There was no systematic effort to expand it, but its grandeur has added to most cities. Countries from the axis of resistance, such as Syria and Lebanon, have requested that the booths be hosted in Tehran, and facilities have become available,” he added.
Eid al-Gadir is the source of unity in the Islamic state. This event was the day when Imam Ali (AS), the first Shiite Imam, was appointed successor to the Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh).
On his way home from Hajj in 632, known as the farewell pilgrimage, the Prophet (Pbuh) announced his cousin Ali (AS) in his sermon, as his successor, as his cousin Ali (AS) and as the first imam based on divine revelation.
Two tents were then thrown, one of which the Muslims the Prophet (Pbuh) blessed his excellent choice, and the other was that all the tribal Muslims gave allegiance to Imam Ali (AS).
According to the Holy Quran, this is the day God perfected Islam as a religion by introducing the Almighty as the next leader. That is why it is celebrated in honor of the first Shia imam.
Imam Ali (AS) is the cousin of the Prophet (Pbuh) and is known as the first to accept the prophet’s call to Islam. According to Islamic sources, Imam eradicated poverty and promoted an unprecedented judicial system across the Islamic world in his five-year rule, based in Iraqi city of Kfa.
Eid Al-Ghadir is celebrated annually by Shia Muslims around the world on the 18th of Dhul-Hijjah.
