Tehran – Samud’s humanitarian fleet sails to Tunisian waters with the aim of breaking the siege of Gaza, so international activists are moving forward to challenge the blockade through non-violent actions. Among them is Dominique, the only representative of the Netherlands. He spoke to the Tehran Times about his motivations, risk preparation and a heartfelt message for Palestinian children.
Introducing yourself – where did you come from and why are you here?
My name is Dominique. I am the only representative here in Tunisia, the Netherlands. I joined the fleet – it was not a choice. I wanted to join soon. I have been protesting against Palestine for a long time, and this is the next step in international solidarity.
What is the purpose of your existence here?
We are all here together to try to break the siege. They are invisible to let the Palestinians know they are not alone. In places where governments do not act, people (normal everyday people and civil society) come together to show that they will work hard to break the siege. We will not stop for them until Palestine is free.
If you reach the Palestinian sea and are intercepted or arrested, are you ready for that scenario? Are you not afraid?
i’m not afraid. You’re ready for any scenario. What happens to us is not a comparison to what the Palestinians are experiencing. You have the privilege of a passport and the ability to leave. They don’t. This is the next stage of direct, international non-violent action, requiring risk-taking and sacrifice.
Do you have a message for Palestinians, especially Gaza children?
yes. To the Palestinians – to the children of Gaza – we always think of you. We’re always there for you. No matter what our government does, we are by your side. We are always 1 million percent by your side and we will never give up. We’re here to you. So don’t lose hope. We will do our best and will not stop until Palestine is free. Inshara.
