Germany is aiming to establish a joint German-Israel Cyber Research Centre to deepen cooperation between the intelligence reporting agencies and security agencies on both sides, German Interior Minister Alexander Doblin said on Sunday.
Germany is one of Israel’s closest allies in Europe, and Berlin is increasingly seeking Israeli military expertise to enhance its military capabilities and contribution to NATO in the face of growing threats from Russia and China.
“Military defense alone is not enough for this turning point in security. Significant civil defense upgrades are also essential to strengthen overall defensive capabilities,” Dobrint said as the German Build newspaper reported during his visit to Israel.
Dobrinz, who was appointed as Germany’s new German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz last month, arrived in Israel on Saturday.
According to the Bild Report, Dobrindt outlined a five-point plan aimed at establishing what is called the German “Cyberdome” as part of its cyber defense strategy.
