He pointed out that if Israel says the attack was directed at one person, then it would need to answer questions about why a total of five colleagues were killed. A representative from the German Foreign Ministry pointed out that the German government is advocating the need to protect journalists.
“In our opinion, it changes now that the Israeli side provides explanations in the most transparent and understandable way possible,” he said. Israel must ensure that journalists in the Gaza Strip are “free and safe to work.”
According to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 200 journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in October 2023. A ministry spokesman said many of these casualties were “completely unacceptable.”
Previously, Katari al-Jazeera said four of his employees were killed in Gaza on an Israeli strike – reporters Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Kleika, and two photographers. Another channel operator was then added to the list of dead. At the time of the Israeli drone attack, shortly before midnight local time, they were in a journalist’s tent at the entrance to Arshifa Hospital. In total, seven people were killed in the bombing.
