Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf addressed MPs in Parliament on Sunday, condemning Australia’s “anti-Iran” stance.
Mr Ghalibaf condemned the Australian government’s decision to blacklist the Revolutionary Guards, saying the force was of Iranian national origin and had played a central role in the fight against terrorism in West Asia. He stressed that “baseless accusations” cannot challenge the power and influence of the Revolutionary Guards.
He also claimed Australia’s move was an attempt to appease Israel and divert world attention from its “genocide crimes in Gaza.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry last week strongly condemned the Australian government’s unwarranted move to label the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a “dangerous and criminal novelty.”
In response to Australia’s designation of the Revolutionary Guards as a state sponsor of terrorism, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday: “The Australian government’s politically motivated actions are a dangerous and criminal novelty, carried out under the influence of the Zionist regime to distract the public from the genocide in Gaza.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers this act to be illegal and unjust, and a violation of international legal rules and norms that protect the national sovereignty of states,” it said in a statement. The statement expressed disgust at the support of some Australian politicians for the genocidal Israeli regime’s evil policy of spreading lies about Iran, and further emphasized the Australian government’s international responsibility for its illegal actions.
