TEHRAN — Gilan province’s first tourist train departed from Rasht station bound for Lushan.
According to IRIB news agency, Northern 2 Railway Director Rahmat Rahmatnejad said the train, which has a capacity of 300 passengers, will operate every Friday.
The train route passes through the lush forests of Saravan, Sialud Dam Bridge, Manzil Dam Bridge (the country’s longest railway bridge), and the beautiful Sharud Bridge (Lushan Brick Bridge), offering passengers the opportunity to see the railway’s unique sights and attractions.
Youssef Salmanka, director of Gilan’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department, said that Gilan, with its Hyrkanian forest and 300 kilometers of coastline, has always been attractive to tourists.
He said more than 13.6 million vehicles entered Gilan province from March to September 2025, adding that more than 40 million people visited the province.
Morteza Moranejad, CEO of Iranian Railway Equipment Manufacturing Company, said: “There are opportunities for cooperation to develop more lines. We hope that many tourists will arrive in Gilan via railway in the near future.”
Gilan province in northern Iran is experiencing significant growth in the tourism industry. Some of the most visited sites in the province include the picturesque village of Masleh, the ancient Rudokan Castle (also known as Kale Rudokan), and the Gilan Rural Heritage Museum.
