Gilan Province, in northern Iran, has significantly boosted tourism along the Knowles holidays, with over 6 million visitors visiting the area.
Visits to the state’s historic sites and museums have been rising significantly, according to Vari Jahani, director of Gilan’s cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts.
On Sunday, Jahani said about 6.2 million travelers entered Gilan between March 13th and March 29th. Of these, 3.79 million people visited museums and historic landmarks, an increase of 27% compared to the previous year.
Most visited places in the province were the picturesque village of Masle, the ancient Rudkan Castle (aka Karerudkan), and the Museum of the countryside heritage of Gilan.
“Rasht, Bandar Anzari, Astara, Rudsar and Rahijan recorded the best accommodations, while lowest accommodations were reported in Rudba, Komam and Siakar,” the official added.
Jahani noted that 95% of the state’s fixed accommodations were occupied for the period mentioned, with guesthouses being the most popular option among visitors, followed by hotels, tourist facilities and eco-lodges.
“In addition to domestic tourism, Gilan welcomed 502 foreign visitors during the holiday, representing a 34.58% increase in international visitors compared to the same period last year. These tourists were Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Japan, China, China, Belarus, Italy, Italy, India and Malays.
Officials also added that a total of 1,273,858 vehicles entered Gilan during the holiday season, further highlighting the state’s status as a major travel destination.
With its stunning coastal landscapes, rich cultural heritage and renowned hospitality, Guillan remains the best choice for both national and international tourists since the Knowles.
On top of that, its sophisticated capital, Rasht, has long been a weekend escape for Tehran residents who sample famous local dishes and want some multifaceted action. It is the largest and wet town in the northern region. The Gilan is divided into coastal plains, including the large Delta of Cefid and adjacent parts of the Alborz Mountains.
In history, the northern region was within the influence of the serial Achemen, Seleucus, Parthian and Sasanian empires, which dominated Iran until the 7th century A.D. The subsequent Arab conquest of Iran led to the rise of many local dynasties, and Gilan gained an independent position that lasted until 1567.
