The gunmen fired fire inside the mosque as Muslims gathered to pray in a remote area of Ungwan Mantau in the Malmfasi Regional Government Area, residents said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility, but such attacks became more common in the northwest and northern central regions of Nigeria.
The attack killed the score and was injured. Over 100 people died in the June attack in northern Nigeria. Amnesty International has called on the government to end “Nearly Daily Bloods in Benue Province.” According to Amnesty, the attack took place in Yelwata, a town in Benue province.
In recent years, long-term conflicts have become fatal, with authorities and analysts warning that more herdsmen are occupying their arms.
State commissioner Nasir Muaz said the Army and police deployed it in the Unguwan Mantau area to prevent further attacks following Tuesday’s bloodshed, adding that shooters are often hidden in order to attack communities in the rainy season, hiding among farm crops.
