Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Eighty told Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, “Transferring Hamas weapons is an issue that must be addressed within the Palestinian framework.”
In an interview, he expresses his hope that security equipment from Palestinian authorities will take on the challenge of controlling Gaza after a transitional period and fram it as a political horizon for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Abdel Eighty also attempts to define the limits of the powers of international forces that Egypt is expected to enter the strip under the Trump plan, and will ultimately need to enter the West Bank to link two regions, Gaza and the West Bank, to support the security mechanisms of Palestinian authorities.
Yesterday Hamas declined to report claiming that the group had agreed to gradually hand over the arms under international supervision and agreed to describe the claim as unfounded falsehood.
The Islamic Resistance said several news websites and media outlets have released claims stemming from Hamas’ sources in an interview with the Al Hadath Network, saying the movement has agreed to a gradual handover of the weapons under international supervision.
“We emphasize that official statements and announcements are made public through the official Hamas website and its official telegram channel, and we invite the media to carefully examine the official Hamas website,” the movement said.
