A Hamas official said Monday that the Palestinian group is ready to release all Israeli hostages in exchange for a “serious prisoner exchange” and that it will ensure Israel will end the war in Gaza.
Hamas is engaged in negotiations in Cairo with mediators in Egypt and Qatar. These are two countries working with the United States to mediate a ceasefire on besieged territory.
“We are ready to release all Israeli prisoners in exchange for serious prisoner swap deals, ending the war, withdrawing Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and humanitarian entry.”
However, he accused Israel of hampering progress towards a ceasefire.
“The problem isn’t the number of prisoners,” Nunu said.
“Hamas therefore emphasizes the need for assurances that force the occupation (Israel) to support the agreement,” he added.
Israeli news website YNET reported that a new proposal was submitted to Hamas on Monday.
Under the contract, the group releases 10 living hostages in exchange for the US, which guarantees Israel will enter into negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire.
