Tehran – Hamas says resistance is a natural right of Palestinians facing crimes against genocide and humanity.
The Gaza-based resistance movement issued a statement in response to a speech by Palestinian authorities President Mahmoud Abbas to the UN General Assembly.
Abbas’ speech to the UN General Assembly. Hamas accused him of being forced to deliver via video links from Ramallah after being denied a US visa to travel to New York.
Abbas refused to act on October 7, 2023, saying that he “does not represent the Palestinians” when he took prisoners. He also argued that “Hamas will not have a role to play in governance.” The PA president went on to say Hamas and other factions must hand over arms as part of the national construction process.
Hamas highlighted some important points:
Resistance to occupation is a national and moral responsibility, and its legitimacy stems from the immobility of the Palestinians and the natural right to resist occupation, as well as the rights recognized by international law and treaties.
Hamas said the Palestinian authorities’ president will repeat the “false story of a Zionist regime” by denounce the resistance to targeting civilians.
Furthermore, the movement stated that Abbas’s claim that Hamas has no role in governance is a blatant violation of the Palestinian people’s fundamental rights to self-determination and would choose their own leaders. Hamas said that such statements are viewed as unacceptable submissions to foreign directions and external agendas.
The statement reaffirmed that as long as Israeli occupation continues, weapons of resistance cannot be compromised.
Hamas pointed out that this is especially true when the Gaza people endure brutal genocide while armed settlers and occupying forces commit ruthless acts of violence against occupied civilians in the West Bank.
Hamas concluded that national unity and comprehensive resistance strategies are essential to counteracting the occupational regime’s goals of genocide, displacement, annexation, and Judaism of Al-Kud (Jerusalem) and Al-Aqsa Mosque. This approach argued that it was key to realizing Palestinian aspirations for freedom, and that it was key to returning home to an independent state with Al-Quds as a capital.
Hamas said in another statement indicating an international day of solidarity with Palestinian journalists (September 26) that Israel, who killed 251 journalists in Gaza, “will not shut up the truth.”
The statement highlighted is that the regime’s attack on the Palestinian media is a “heinous crime” and a blatant violation of international law, treaties and norms.
Meanwhile, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOFs) have launched more indiscriminate attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip, particularly the urban areas of northern Gaza city, leading to further civilian casualties. Among the deaths are children seeking assistance.
Residential buildings are continuously flattened to the ground as the administration’s infantry attempts to pave the way for the city centre to take it again.
Palestinian resistance groups are operating against the IOF ground forces, leading to more casualties among soldiers in the occupying regime.
