“Hamas continues to discuss Stephen Witkov’s ceasefire proposal with the Palestinian factions,” he said on its telegram channel.
Base Naim, a member of Hamas’ Politburo, said Friday that Hamas received Israel’s response to Witkov’s plan that did not meet the movement’s demands.
Israeli media previously reported that the new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire suggested that the Palestinian movement Hamas should release 10 living Israeli prisoners and hand over the bodies of 18 dead prisoners to the Zionist regime. The Israeli side should release Palestinian prisoners according to the previously agreed list. Separately, it stipulates the resumption of humanitarian delivery to Gaza through the United Nations and other international organizations.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said the same day that Israel approved the initiative before it was handed over to Hamas.
The BBC reported citing Hamas officials that it stated that the movement was set to decline Witkov’s proposal because it failed to meet basic demands.
