A tragic helicopter collision occurred Saturday afternoon (September 6) near Airlacaque Airport in Lakeville, Minnesota. Authorities confirmed that there were no survivors. The Robinson R66 helicopter descended around 2:45pm local time in a rural area west of the airport, about 25 miles south of Minneapolis. Emergency responders have discovered the area’s wreckage. Upon arrival, they confirmed that there were no survivors and no injuries were reported on the ground.
The Robinson R66 is a single-engine turbine helicopter with a glass cockpit that usually seats one pilot and up to four passengers. Flight data shows the helicopter took off from Skypark Airport in Lydia, Minnesota, around 2:35pm and headed towards Air Lake Airport.
The crash site is located in non-resident non-profit areas, minimising the risk to individuals on the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. NTSB investigators will arrive at the scene Sunday afternoon to document the wreckage and gather information for ongoing investigations.
