Early Saturday, Israel carried out heavy airstrikes in southern Lebanon, killing one person, wounding seven others and temporarily cutting off a highway connecting Beirut with parts of southern Lebanon, the Health Ministry said.
A pre-dawn airstrike on the village of Museire hit a place selling heavy machinery and destroyed many vehicles.
According to Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV, one person was killed and another injured when a vehicle carrying vegetables that happened to pass by during the airstrike collided with the vehicle.
The Ministry of Health later announced that the person killed was a Syrian national, and the injured included a Syrian national and six Lebanese nationals, including two women.
Hezbollah issued a statement on Saturday calling on the Lebanese government to stand firm, maintain national unity, take immediate diplomatic action and file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council to stop the Zionist regime’s attacks.
These attacks require the national unity of all Lebanese people, a firm stance against current challenges and threats, extensive diplomatic and political action, active action in the Arab and international communities, and filings with the Security Council to pressure our enemy Israel to end the attacks, the statement added.
Earlier this month, UN human rights chief Volker Türk called for renewed efforts to permanently end hostilities in post-war Lebanon. He said that by the end of September, 103 civilians had been confirmed to have been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire.
