BEIRUT – The Lebanese government convened at 3pm Tuesday in response to US pressure to adopt a resolution on “arms monopoly” within a defined time frame. The meeting attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam was led by President Joseph Aung.
Lebanese and non-Lebanese observers are not naive enough to believe that government decisions can extinguish the flames of resistance that spontaneously emerged to repel imperialist occupational projects. Israeli professional organizations and their supporters also firmly believe in the spontaneity of resistance.
Without a doubt, a government that considers the weapons of resistance as a violation of the Constitution allows certain countries, particularly Washington and Riyadh, to cooperate, negotiate, or criminalize allied Lebanese parties on the eve of future parliamentary elections.
The truth is that the challenge of stopping Israeli invasion, liberating Lebanese prisoners and starting the reconstruction process forces all reasonable people to be vigilant against Zionist-American deception and deception.
Meanwhile, Ali Al McDad, a member of the Hezbollah Congressional Bloc, criticized “media and political hype that portrayed the session as crucial or historic.”
In an interview with Sputnik Radio, Al-Maqdad explained, “The first and most important thing is to hold a vital session to discuss important issues such as occupying territories, prisoners, and reconstruction.”
Senator Hezbollah asked, “Is this session necessary for Lebanon or for the enemy of Israel and America?” He criticized “the identity of Israel and American rhetoric.”
On his part, another Hezbollah MP Ali Fayyad pointed out that the cohesive Lebanese position would end external pressure. However, he warned, “The worst-case scenario we must be aware of is to change the problem from Lebanon-Israels to Lebanon-Lebanon.”
Fayyad made a statement after meeting Gebran Basil, head of the Free Patriotic Movement.
He said the unified Lebanese position, which requires Israel to withdraw from Lebanon’s territory, halt attacks and release prisoners, “will serve as an entry point for an exit strategy from the difficult situations the country is experiencing.” He warned that “the coming danger is not limited to one area than one group or another.”
Moreover, Feiyad emphasized that Lebanon would not accept compromise on its interests, and highlighted the difficulties of the situation the country is experiencing.
Hezbollah MPs have called for a unified official position that prioritizes Israel’s withdrawal, release of prisoners and the end of hostilities, particularly since “now the country is exposed to major strategic sovereignty risks.”
Feiyad also said that Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement “while opportunities to build a nation are ripe, the obstacle to the issue is Israel’s occupation, which hinders the path to recovery and the state building.”
He explained that the movement’s readings aren’t too far from Hezbollah’s reading, even in regards to “national strategies that constitute an approach to the issue of weapons.”
Furthermore, Fayyad emphasized the importance of holding parliamentary elections on time without postponement.
