The argument reportedly is investigating the HTS, which handed over the height of Goran under Israeli occupation in exchange for Israel, moving the contested Shebaa Farm area to Damascus.
Israel’s Kang Channel cited a source indicating that approval from 80 members of the Knesset is required.
A Syrian source close to the HTS suggested that linking the Sheba farm issue to Golan Heights could only be considered once a formal agreement is reached, but another source said the issue is not currently on the negotiation table.
Sivaa Farms area, located on the Lebanese border with Israeli occupation territory, is widely recognized as Lebanon’s territory.
Because it is not directly adjacent to Syria, the relocation of the region to Damascus would violate international law and further complicate Lebanon’s fragile political and security situation.
The dominant Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, has repeatedly refusing to resume resistance operations at Shebah farms and refused to attempt to change the status quo.
The group also denounced Western support for Israel’s recent military campaign in Gaza, repeatedly refusing to disarm, and denounced the Lebanese government’s efforts to “illegal” and “high treason.”
The HTS regime, which occupied Damascus after the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December, is a Takfiri group with origins linked to al-Qaeda and Dash.
Despite its brutal track record, HTS was recently courted by Western countries.
During a local visit, US President Donald Trump announced plans to lift sanctions against the HTS administration in exchange for normalisation with Israel.
HTS leader Abu Mohamed Al Jolani has committed to recognizing Israel by the end of 2026 and establishing diplomatic relations, showing dramatic changes in the group that has long been designated as a terrorist organization.
The momentum towards normalization after HTS troops were accused of massacring hundreds of Druze civilians in Sweida was accused of being an event that Israel cited as justification to open corridors into the area.
Critics argue that the US and Israel are misusing HTS’s control in Syria to promote instability and promote strategic ambitions in the region.
Among these developments, the de facto Foreign Minister HTS held US-brokered consultations in Paris with Israeli delegations, marking a controversial diplomatic breakthrough.
Human rights groups have reported nearly 10,000 violent deaths since the rise in power in the HTS, and targeted attacks on minorities, including Alawis, Druze and Christians, highlighting the group’s brutal governance.
Meanwhile, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes aimed at expanding its military footprint in southwestern Syria and undermining Damascus’ capabilities under an HTS-controlled regime.
The proposal to replace Sheba farms with Golan Heights marks yet another fork in Israel’s ongoing colonial expansion.
By attempting to justify the occupation of Golan Heights through a secret deal with Syrian extremist HTS rulers, Israel has further strengthened its division in the Arab world while also determining the interests of its illegal territorial lands.
This territorial exchange not only undermines Lebanon’s sovereignty at Shebah farms, but also sets a dangerous precedent that rewards changes in occupation and forced demographics.
