Speaking to Beijing’s Chinese Media Group (CMG) on Friday, IAEA’s Rafael Mariano Grossi hopes that the US-Iran nuclear talks in Oman on Saturday will both sides bridge the differences and establish an agreement to resolve the political impasse.
“We need an agreement and we need it right away. We’re doing it before coming in a few hours before an important meeting with the US and Iran in Oman. So we hope for the best out there,” he said.
“There was an exchange of messages between President Donald Trump and the Iranian government. I know there is still a lot of difference there, but there is one thing that should be a source of hope in the sense that there is a recognition that there is a need for an agreement. Then the terms of the agreement, the terms of the agreement, that should be negotiated with Gross.”
