Tehran – The 2010 Japanese animated fantasy film “Arietty’s Secret World” is simply known as “Arietty.” It will be screened at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran on Thursday.
The 94-minute animation will be exhibited at IAF’s Naseri Hall with Persian subtitles at 6pm, Irna reported.
Written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa and animated by Studio Ghibli, “Arrietty” was Yonebayashi’s debut as Yonebayashi’s feature film debut director.
It is based on the 1952 novel The Remoners by Mary Norton, the English author of children’s books, borrowing items from humans to survive about the families of small people who secretly live on the walls and floors of typical homes.
The animation tells the story of a young borrower (Arrietty) becoming friends with a human boy (Shaun) while keeping it undetected by other humans.
Arietti, a small teenager, lives with her parents in a hollow in a suburban home, and homeowners and housekeepers don’t know about it. Like others of her kind, Arrietty remains hidden from her human host, but sometimes ventures to borrow sugar cubes and other supplies from under the floorboards. When 12-year-old Sean meets Arietty, a secret friendship forms, but their relationship can spell danger to Arietty’s family.
It was released in Japan by Toho on July 17, 2010 and received positive reviews from critics who praised its animation and music. It became the best-selling Japanese film at the box office in 2010, winning over $145 million worldwide.
The animated film also won the Animation of the Year Award at the 34th Japan Academy Awards Ceremony.
