The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has said that Israel is not properly investigating alleged war crimes brought during the Gaza war.
“The question is: Were (Israeli) judges, prosecutors and legal tools used to adequately scrutinize the allegations we have seen in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in the Palestinian state?” And the answer to that is: I think the answer was ‘no’,” Karim Khan said in an interview with Reuters.
“We are here as a court of last resort, but…as we speak now, we have yet to see any real effort by the State of Israel to take any action that meets established jurisprudence,” he said. added.
Khan also criticized the U.S. House of Representatives’ resolution imposing sanctions on the ICC for issuing an arrest warrant against Prime Minister Netanyahu, saying it was “a matter of concern to all people of conscience.”
In addition to the warrant against Netanyahu, the ICC also issued a warrant against former Israeli war minister Yoav Galant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
