The United Nations’ top legal body, the International Court of Justice, said Wednesday that Israel has no choice but to support relief efforts provided by the United Nations and its groups, including UNWRA, in the Gaza Strip, according to AFP news agency.
The 11-judge panel added that it did not substantiate Israel’s claim that a significant portion of UNRWA personnel are “members of Hamas.”
The CJ also said that Israel must meet the “basic needs” of Gaza residents, including providing them with everything they need to survive.
“As an occupying power, Israel has an obligation to ensure the basic needs of the local population, including supplies essential to their survival,” said ICJ President Yuji Iwasawa.
“The court considers that Israel has an obligation to agree to and facilitate redress plans provided by the United Nations and its organizations, including UNRWA,” Iwasawa said.
