Speaking in this Friday prayer sermon, Ayatollah Khatami said that the enemy has always been trying to destroy Iran. “Now they’re talking about the destruction (of Iran) because they see themselves as a life-and-death situation, but we stand firm like a Cypress tree.”
He said demonstrations around the world showed growing hatred for Israel, but showed Iran’s power growing, citing the country boldly assaulting US bases, namely Aldeid, Qatar, for the first time since World War II. “Iran has made a strong target for the base and has shown the world how strong it is,” he said.
Khatami declared that the war revealed Israel as a “cancerous tumor” that must be removed. He warned Muslim countries that if Israel grows stronger, it would give them what it did to Syria.
“Iran was not an initiator of the war, but it was adamant,” he said elsewhere in his remarks.
Khatami said the US entered war directly to save Israel. This explains why the slogan “Death to America” resonates among Iranians.
Khatami concluded by denounceing the attack record, stating that Washington has directly or indirectly attacked 25 countries in recent decades, and that its history was “a black document of crime.”
The Zionist regime fought a war of attack on Iran on June 13, attacking Iranian troops, nuclear and residential areas for 12 days, but the US carried out a military attack on three nuclear facilities in Iran, Natanz, Fordou and Isfahan on June 22.
Iranian troops carried out a powerful counterattack shortly after the attack. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Aerospace Force implemented 22 waves of retaliation missiles against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III, which caused significant losses to cities throughout the occupying territories.
In response to the US attack, Iranian forces fired waves of missiles at Aldead Air Force Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
The battle was suspended due to a ceasefire that came into effect on June 24th.
