Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob said EU countries will adopt individual punitive measures against Israel if the 27-person blocs do not take concrete steps within the next few days in the face of the ongoing war of massacres in Gaza.
Golob made his speech in Brussels on Thursday ahead of the Council of Europe summit.
“Unless the EU takes concrete action today or within two weeks, each member state, including Slovenia and several countries that share our views, will be forced to take the next step on their own,” he said.
Golob emphasized that EU members are ready to do so not only to demonstrate solidarity but to put real pressure on the Israeli regime.
“We could have done more in the past, but it’s never too late,” Slovenia Prime Minister said.
“Unfortunately, some states, and even important states, give their own interests before human rights,” he added with acute criticism of Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Romania and Lithuania, opposed to the idea of progress towards Israel.
This comment comes as Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, France, Sweden and Spain support sanctions against the Tel Aviv regime over the ongoing war of genocide against the Palestinians.
In particular, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is seeking a clear “immediate” signal sent to Zionist groups over the bloody onslaught of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“It makes no sense to impose 18 sanctions against Russia for its military campaign in Ukraine, but Europe cannot even suspend the association agreement on a double standard if Article 2 on Respect for Human Rights is blatantly violated,” Sanchez said.
Since October 7, 2023, at least 56,259 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, as well as 132,458 more have been injured in the brutal Israeli onslaught in Gaza.
The International Criminal Court issued a warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former military ministers of Yoayoa Gallant in November last year, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its war with the besieged coastal territories.
