The local intelligence agency announced in a statement Saturday that terrorist teams were destroyed in major counterterrorism operations, leading to the discovery of various types of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices.
The statement added that armed terrorists who had sneaked into the country through the eastern border over the past few days were captured after being identified by security forces. They were arrested before they could take any action to do their mission.
The main operational team consisted of seven non-Iranian extremists armed with a variety of weapons, including laser-guided RPG-7 launchers, US-made M4 and M16 assault rifles, hand-rena bullets, grenade launchers, explosive vests, handheld radios, and large caches for RPG-prevention counter-war rounds. Several vehicles and motorcycles were also seized.
Six terrorists were killed in the heavy hours of firefight, and two others were captured alive.
Two Iranian intelligence agents and police officers were injured in the process.
Sistan and the Intelligence Director for Balkestan Province noted that the terrorist teams are planning to target “critical facilities” in eastern Iran.
The training method, including exercises for the site’s mockup model, is reportedly similar to previous replicas due to the operational playbook of Israel Spy Agency Mossad.
Sistan and Balchestan, which border Pakistan, have witnessed several terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past few years.
Terrorist groups carrying out attacks on Iran’s interests in the southeastern and southwest parts of the country are believed to be linked to foreign intelligence reporting agencies.
On October 26th last year, 10 people from Iranian law enforcement were killed in a terrorist attack in Goharku district of Taftan County, the province.
Jaish Al-Adl’s terrorist group has argued responsibility for the attack. This has been one of the most deadly things in the state in recent months.
