Tehran – Nearly 60,000 foreign students are currently studying at Iranian universities, compared to 35,000 students from past Iranian grades, which began on September 22, 2024.
Despite existing challenges, Iran was able to attract students from 101 countries, the IRNA cited Saeed Habiba, head of the student affairs organization.
Their positive records in the scientific capabilities of the country’s universities and international cooperation are a valuable opportunity that must be seized to transform the presence of foreign students into national discourse and strategic plans, officials said.
These students are primarily from Afghanistan, India, Iraq and Pakistan.
In 2024, Hashem Dadashpour, former head of the Student Affairs Organization, said the organization will provide new services to foreign students studying at universities in the country.
He added that the online language learning system will be launched for applicants to take Persian language courses before they enter Iran and prepare to study at the university.
In September 2023, Dadashpour said the Ministry of Science plans to increase the number of international students from now on to around 320,000 by 2026 from around 100,000.
“Strengthening scientific authority, developing public diplomacy, and expanding Persian language are three main reasons why international students are attracted,” Dadashpour said.
